THE MUSE AT 269, PORTOBELLO ROAD, LONDON

A project for the artist Damian Rayne, involving conversion of a Victorian terraced house into a multifunctional arts building. A two bedroom flat with an artist’s studio occupies the upper floors. A separate studio flat has been located on the first floor. The ground floor houses a space combining an innovative gallery and art studio concept where recent art graduates are offered free use of studio space with catering use. Regular art events are held on the ground floor, popular with the local arts aficionados. The project is an example of how lateral spatial thinking can facilitate insertion of unusual volumes into a tight Victorian terrace house for the purpose of art practice. Both studios are top lit and feature high ceilings. A roof terrace cut into the existing butterfly roof was also allowed by RBKC under delegated powers. In 2011 we were brought back to update the building ( new photos to follow ).
