AUDITORIUM MAXIMUM JAGIELLONIAN UNIVERSITY, KRAKOW, POLAND

The Jagiellonian University established in 1364 is one of the oldest in Europe. The site selected for a new complex of auditoria was located close to the historic centre of Krakow. The project, a model low energy solution, in symbiotic relationship with an also proposed BiPV hotel, was submitted in an invited competition as the only entry from outside of Krakow. It received the University Rector's Prize. The complex consists of three volumes, which house 5 auditoria ranging from 150 to 1000 seats. The shells for the auditoria were designed to enclose maximum volume with minimal external wall surface areas. The central area between them serves as a multifunctional agora. Sharply defined roof creates a dialogue with the street and the neighbouring buildings.
